This looked like ice broken into large pieces and pushed ashore by open water; however, it is frozen mudflat pieces.
The day started out a bit disappointing. We woke up early and headed SE toward Portage Glacier hoping to get some great sunrise shots over the mountains. But a few miles outside of Anchorage the weather took a turn for the worse. It was raining, sleeting, snowing, and icing all at once. We turned around shortly before Girdwood , AK and came back downtown where it was barely flurrying.

This picture looks like it was taken with black and white film, but honest, it's color film. Still, I think it's a pretty picture.

Pretty much same story as the previous picture. So much for the sunrise pictures I really wanted.

We gave up on the sunrise and came back to Anchorage to an IMAX theater called "Alaskan Experience" It's cheating, but we'll post a couple shots.

Again, the picture doesn't do it justice. There's nothing like watching glaciers calve in real life.
Tomorrow we're headed north to Wasilla to watch the vet checks done on the Iditarod dogs. I hope the weather cooperates a little. Finally we should get some doggy pictures.

Tonight we went to an Alaska Aces ECHL hockey game with Rosemary. It was good to see a hockey game. Their zamboni is sponsored by NAPA Auto Parts. They have modified it by putting a big V8 engine exposed up front, a big side exhaust pipe and added a spoiler to the rear. Pretty neat.
